The mill was built in 1840, then converted over the the new roller system in the late 1800's to become the first roller mill to operate in Watauga County.

The concrete wall is probably part of the old raceway into the mill.

The area around the community of Cove Creek was known as the Egypt of Watauga Co. The land was fertile, similar to the Nile River delta. Cove Creek also had one of the first cheese dairies in the south. The now private residence may have been a local store since ceasing to be a mill, considering all the soda-pop advertisement signs on the building. The mill last operated in the late 1960's.
