A beautiful operating mill set in the countryside of Northern Indiana in Elkhart Co. on the Little Elkhart River. Indiana's oldest, continuously operating grist mill, where they still produce stone ground flour the old-fashioned way. A great county park setting.

In 1832, Edward Bonney built this water-powered grist mill along the Toledo-Chicago Trail near the St. Joseph River. The river would provide access to Great Lake ports. The railroad bypassed Bonneyville's mill, ending his dream of a growing population center there.

Sepia photo of the two sets of millstones. It is one of the quietest operating mills the photographer has ever visited.
