John Prall Jr. probably built this linseed oil mill around 1794, when he bought the old grist mill from Daniel Howell. He built the newer stone grist mill, a saw mill, several stone houses [see Prallsville Grist Mill page], and the oil mill which served various purposes, including a store.

The linseed oil mill, currently serving as an art gallery for local artists, is considered one of the best preserved oil mills in the mid-Atlantic area. Artists are actually active on site working on paintings either inside the oil mill or, weather permitting, outside.
