The mill was originally a flour mill powered by an overshot wheel that turned buhrstones. The current feed mill was built in the 1880's on foundations of an original 1742 mill built by Adam German. Philip German Sr. erected a two story mill in 1814, five years after the millrace was dug.

Lewis D. Leiby built thE present 3 story mill between 1910 & 1920. The brick feed storage structure was added in 1940. The 24' waterwheel was used by the mill until the 1930's. From the 1930's to 1950's, the mill was powered by a Buik engine, being replaced by a hammermill powered by electricity thereafter.
