The building was constructed by Cary W. Ahl between 1867-1870. He was a partner in the following Boiling Springs enterprises: Carlisle Iron Works; the Big Pond Furnace; and the Katherine Furnace.

Ahl used the building for storing finished products from the furnaces. The buildings site "just happened" to be along the South Mountain Railraod, a subsidiary of Ahl's own Harrisburg & Potomac Railroad.

The warehouse is situated only 2500' east of LeTort Spring Run, but it was never water-powered, as it had no need of machanical or hydro power as it was just used as a warehouse, with no processing occurring.

From 1946-1975, the structure was used for storage by J.P. Bisler & Sons Inc. The warehouse was renovated in the fall of 1975 to be a retail outlet for wood burning stoves, all the rage about then.

In 1983, the Meals family, the current owners, purchased the property and operated a Sportswear store, a teenage nightclub, and an office supply store. Today the Scalles Restaurant, a soup and sandwich facility, has done a fine job of retaining some integrity for the "Old Warehouse." The majority of the historical information was gleaned from the rear cover of the Scalles Restaurant menu.
