The Crouse mill replaced the David Buffington Mill, shown on an 1862 atlas, that was destroyed by fire in 1887. The present mill was built by John Henry Menges of Pa., in 1887, for use as a grist mill and saw mill.

The mill was purchased by the Crouse family in 1889. Raymond E. Crouse, son of Wilson, worked the mill his entire life, discontinuing the making of flour by water power in 1964. In 1965, Crouse was selling cornmeal for 35 cents/5 lbs. and the mill was capable of producing 200 pounds of flour/hour. Turbines continued to make cornmeal by water-power until 1976, the year prior to Crouse's demise.
